Location
Chiang Mai is the largest city in northern Thailand, a country in southeast Asia. It is the gateway to seeing the different hill tribe people groups found in that area. It is one of the most popular places to visit in Thailand.
Kid-Friendliness?
Thailand is frequently called “The Land of Smiles” and this fits with the attitude towards children as well. People are extremely loving towards children. With big families, Thais will help you with your children along the way, as well as take pictures of your children, and often give treats to your kids. The elephant sanctuaries, which are well-known tourist destinations, are also extremely helpful with kids, so that children have a good experience around elephants.
Famous Landmark
Built high up on a mountaintop right outside of Chiang Mai, the temple of Doi Suthep glimmers in the sun. This is one of the most famous Chiang Mai temple, or in all of Thailand. After driving almost to the top of the mountain, you can walk or take the funicular railway up the side of the mountain.
Shopping
The night market fills street after street in downtown historic Chiang Mai. It is the most popular night market in Thailand and has everything you might be looking for. Dispersed amongst the stalls are food options to keep you snacking while you shop!
Green Space
Chiang Mai has many parks and playgrounds for kids around the city. Outside the city, you can visit Queen Sirikit Botanic Gardens, a large garden with different plant habitats.
Kid Activity
Chiang Mai is full of unique kid-friendly activities that could last you weeks and weeks. Many activities are on the more expensive end (considering the relative budget-friendly country Thailand is). The top of our list is definitely the elephant sanctuaries that are dotted around the surrounding countryside. Interaction with these beautiful animals is a wonderful experience for children. There is also the Elephant PooPoo Park where kids can learn how to make paper out of elephant poop.
