Choosing the right hotel is important for parents traveling with kids so that you get the experience that you are hoping for.  Whether you want to be close by to conveniences or out in the middle of nowhere, you need to find the hotel that best fits you.

As we traveled through the Cameron Highlands, we saw a lot of different hotel options for various types of family travelers.  Here are the ones that made our cut by standing out among the numerous hotels we experienced.

Top Family Hotels in the Cameron Highlands

The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands – Best for luxury with a view

Why families love it: The Lake house is a 4-star luxury hotel. The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands has a family suite room option, which gives a family 2 bedrooms – one for the parents and one for the kids!  You can have up to 4 adults or 3 adults and 2 kids booked in the family suite.  Breakfast is included in your reservation.

Location perks: The Lakehouse is found on a mountainside right on highway 59 south of the town of Tanah Rata with a beautiful lake view and surrounding mountains.  Away from the busy town, you can feel completely in nature.

Rates and booking info: A family suite is around RM1500 per night including breakfast

Hotel De’La Ferns – Best for luxury between the two towns

  • Why families love it: Hotel De’La Ferns is a great blend of expensive taste and family-friendly vibe.  The hotel is on the main road through the Cameron Highlands, but is found by itself on the side of a mountain, so you feel you are in your own world.  With a great buffet breakfast and family suite options, Hotel De’La Ferns fits families who are looking for service and quality.
Cameron Highlands Lemon Button

  • Rates and booking info: A 2-bedroom family suite costs around RM 650 per night including breakfast.  This can accommodate up to 6 people per reservation.

Hillview Inn – Best for quiet basic accommodation in town

  • Location perks: Hillview Inn is off the main road a bit from downtown Tanah Rata, giving families the access to the conveniences of town, but with the quiet of a rural inn.
  • Rates and booking info: Two adjoining rooms for six people total costs around RM 350.
  • Kid-friendly features: Hillview Inn has a garden in front of the inn where you can bring your own food and sit and eat. There are lots of pretty flowers in the garden to look at also.

Clock Inn Hostel Cameron Highlands – Best for budget accommodation in Tanah Rata

  • Why families love it: Clock Inn Hostel Cameron Highlands is one of the cheapest accommodations to be found.  It has basic amenities with a bed and shared bathrooms.  If you are looking for cheap, basic rooms for your family to stay in, this is it.
  • Location perks: This hostel is just a 7-minute walk down the road from the Tanah Rata Bus Terminal, so the location is perfect for families taking public transportation to the Cameron Highlands.  It’s in the center of town with everything a family would need within walking distance.
  • Rates and booking info: One double room with shared toilet for RM 60 (one room accommodates two people)
  • Parent pro-tip: As it is a hostel, make sure you only stay if you have older children (or contact the hostel to inquire if they accommodate younger children).

Snooze Cameron Highlands Hotel – Best for budget accommodation in Brinchang

  • Why families love it: Snooze Cameron Highlands Hotel is an extremely cheap option for a family room.  The quadruple room has two beds plus a pull out couch, so the whole family can be together.  That said, because it is inexpensive, it doesn’t have easy access to the rooms.  You must climb up sets of stairs to get to the rooms.
  • Location perks: It is right in the center of downtown Brinchang (the larger town in the Cameron Highlands).  It is located right next to the mall and a convenience store.  However, the bus station is in Tanah Rata (15-minute drive away), so for families taking public transportation to Cameron Highlands, this would not be a good option.
  • Rates and booking info: One quadruple room for 4 people costs around RM 100.

  • Location perks: You are up a mountain from the main highway that passes through the Cameron Highway, so the views are magnificent!
  • Rates and booking info: One Shasta family suite for 6 people (2 adults and 4 kids) cost around RM 1000 per night.
